Restaurant in Loano “Serendipity”
The happiness that comes by chance, while you’re looking for something else.
“We found each other at work, years ago, in a place that wasn’t yet ours. Two different ways of being in the world, two rhythms that seemed opposite. And yet, from the very beginning, something began to speak in silence. Me, with eyes always moving; him, with the calm of someone who knows where he’s going.”
“The name came before everything else. Serendipity. We didn’t choose it — it found us. The happiness that comes by chance, while you’re looking for something else. Only later did we understand it wasn’t a name: it was a declaration.”
Our Story
“We met in a grand hotel. Him in the kitchen, me in the dining room — as it would always be. We weren’t looking for anything in particular, and yet something began to take shape. Our characters were different, our passions seemed distant. Then, slowly, we shared them. We started travelling together, seeking new flavours, spending time in nature, close to the sea. Discovering that differences weren’t obstacles — they were the point.”
“The first time in Loano, it was a small restaurant, full of enthusiasm. We began to dream there, to walk together, to build something that felt like ours. But the space was tight. The dream was growing faster than that place could contain.”
“Then the opportunity came. One of the most beautiful small squares in Loano’s historic centre. We looked at each other. It was there.”
“That’s where Serendipity was born.”
Dario’s World
“In the kitchen, you listen.
The ingredient speaks —
my job is not to cover it.”
Ingredient, Season and Territory
My menu follows the rhythm of nature, where the sea and the land meet without overpowering each other. At the centre of everything is the ingredient, selected each day for its freshness and origin: from locally sourced fish, chosen for quality and traceability, to meats handled with technical rigour.
Much of the vegetable component comes directly from our own garden. This closeness allows me to bring to the table vegetables and herbs harvested at the peak of their expression, respecting seasonal cycles and ensuring clean, unmediated flavours.
Technique, for me, is a tool of respect. Careful cooking, citrus emulsions, the skilful use of heat — everything serves a single purpose: to preserve the integrity of each ingredient. The result is a cuisine of subtraction, where simplicity and precision come together. A clarity of taste that speaks of our territory, between the saltiness of the shoreline and the scents of the hinterland.
Laura’s World
“The dining room is not a backdrop. It’s a choice, every day.”
Travelling has always been my greatest passion. Seeing the world, immersing myself in different cultures and drawing from distant aesthetics has shaped my understanding of beauty: not as a mere exercise in style, but as a profound form of respect and welcome towards others.
When I envisioned the spaces of our restaurant, I wanted them to tell this story. The interiors are a personal narrative, made of careful choices and refined details, where design meets the warmth of a lived-in home. I like to think that every corner offers a small discovery, a refined mix of influences that creates a suspended, elegant atmosphere — yet one that puts you at ease straight away.
My favourite place, however, is our outdoor terrace. Overlooking one of the most characteristic squares in the historic centre, it is a small corner of peace that I tend to personally. Here, among ancient stones and the silence of the alleyways, I love to surround myself with flowers: my geraniums, with their bursts of vivid colour, are my way of welcoming you into an environment that feels fresh and carefully tended.
For me, welcoming a guest is never a simple act of service. It is an opportunity for exchange, a moment in which kindness and a sincere smile can turn a dinner into a memorable experience. My goal is simple: to make you feel good. I want your time here to be a pleasure for the eyes and for the spirit — an encounter between fine cooking and the warmth of a welcome that I hope will make you feel, from the very first moment, among friends.
Experience
Serendipity is the result of this complicity: a story that continues every day, dish after dish, table after table. A place that is not born to impress, but to happen. Like the best things.
Coming to us is a conscious choice. That’s why we want to be honest about what you will find — and what you won’t.
You won’t find dishes built to please everyone: not because we lack the desire to welcome, but because every dish that leaves Dario’s kitchen has a precise story to tell.
Serendipity is a restaurant for adults. Our kitchen does not offer a children’s menu,
not because we lack care or attention for the little ones, but because our proposal is born from a research that needs time, silence and curiosity to be fully experienced. Qualities that, understandably, belong to another age.
We ask you to trust the journey: at least 2 dishes per person, the right amount of time to live the experience as it was intended.
Your dogs are welcome on the outdoor terrace. Inside, out of respect for all guests, pets are not permitted.
If all of this speaks to you, you’re already home.
